I am a scientist at heart, which is reflective of my Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado-Boulder and my career choice to be a science teacher. I received my teaching credentials and Master’s degree in Education at the University of Colorado-Boulder as well. I love learning about math and science, and enjoyed sharing my knowledge of these subjects with my classmates who always turned to me for help in school. Being able to help my fellow classmates understand various concepts and answer their questions is what drove me to become a tutor beginning my sophomore year of high school. I helped found my high school’s after-school tutoring center during my senior year and tutored students of different grade levels. As a college student, I tutored at-risk youth in the Adelante program at a nearby high school. I initially began tutoring math (algebra and geometry), but I also tutor science subjects including biology, chemistry, and physical science. I believe that education leads to broader pathways towards success in life and every student deserves the chance to obtain an excellent education. This is what I tell my students because I want them to believe it and I want them to know I want to help in any way that I can, which can be different for each individual student. Learning extends beyond school and so I continue to be a life-long learner as I read compelling books, golf with others to learn from conversations that ensue, and watch movies of various cultures to broaden my own scope of the world.
