I began tutoring while I was earning my Bachelor's degree at Augsburg College. There I helped students with any issue related to writing, literature, and reading. My main focus was helping students form the arguments and theses of their essays. I also helped students to develop a style and tone which improved their overall argument. Because of my passion of literature, I would spend a lot of time in the library discussing more difficult works with various students. We spent a lot of time on Shakespeare, as well as poetry ranging from the 16th century up to the present. Whether it's poetry, prose, or plays, I love working with students to analyze the foundational issues operating within these works, to better improve our critical thinking abilities, as well as our aesthetic appreciation.

Along with writing and reading, I'm available to tutor for test preparation. I took both the ACT and SAT and would love to assist students in preparing for the writing and reading portions these challenging tests.

I'm also very much interested in other languages. I've studied Spanish at various levels in college, and am qualified to teach Spanish 1 with any interested students. Studying foreign languages offer us an opportunity not only to better communicate with a larger portion of the world, but also to better help us understand some of the ways in which our own language operates. Right now I'm working on studying the Russian language in my spare time. It's work, but it's actually pretty fun.

In addition to language and literature, I love music and running. I love essentially any kind of music, from classical to country, and I spend a lot of time in the summer running laps around Lake Calhoun with my headphones on.
