I am Professor Marsha, BA, MS, ABD, and I am delighted to have your consideration of my request to serve as your private English, writing, and grammar coach. Many students are intimidated by writing, an issue spurred by rigid learning environments and the sight of red ink bleeding all over their written work. I understand this! Writing is a personal act and the products are our brain children. I keep this in mind as I assist you with your focused Language Arts goals. Learning should be challenging, not frustrating so I believe in providing a "stress-free" experience created through patience, a genuine interest in your skill growth, and a "coach" like methodology to encourage your full engagement and ownership in the process. Since I only tutor online, you can select the setting in which you feel most comfortable and receptive to new ideas. In addition, I do not use red, but you may see a purple or green font or comment color here or there. Finally, questions are always welcomed! It is never a bother when students need my assistance and it is a pleasure to serve!
I am a seasoned educator with experience in public, private, career tech, adult literacy, and higher education environments, online and onground. I began as a second career earning my Indiana 5-12 Language Arts Credential as a grad student in 1992 (that’s 25 years this year!) I am enjoying my 13th year on faculty at National University where I teach research report writing as part of an Information Literacy curriculum. I hold a CA K-12 English Prelim Single Subject Credential and am ABD (All But Dissertation) in Teaching and Learning (Argosy Univ). I co-authored the original iCheck Integrated Microsoft Office 2007 Real World Applications workbook, which is still in use today with updates. Prior to my education journey, I earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism at Indiana University in 1984. My unique combination of skills and experience make me most suitable for students in Grade 5 through Adult but I consider each request on a case by case basis. I am happy to work with students from all settings including home schools.
Specifically, I can assist you with all aspects of English, writing and grammar including G&T, AP and remedial studies, research writing and composition studies (expository and persuasive), the development and strengthening of effective online/on-ground research techniques, preliminary research study document construction (e.g., lit reviews), annotated bibliography development, Roman Numeral Outline assembly, post draft outlining, counterargument refutation, APA 6th Ed, MLA 8th Ed (others by request) in-text citation, Reference Page and Works Cited Page construction, website credibility evaluation and other Information Literacy and workplace communications (resumes, cover letters, difficult communications), college entrance examination essays and grammatical and mechanical skill improvement.
I am accustomed to working across time zones and have a highly flexible schedule. Please contact me and let’s get started on strengthening your Language Arts skills! A year from now, you will be glad that you started today! I look forward to working with you!
