In the fall or 2017 I will be graduating early from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) with my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry & Cell Biology and am currently in the process of applying to medical school. My experience in tutoring started long before my college years, when I was just a math tutor for struggling students in my community. However, during my early years of college I expanded my tutoring range when I mentored underserved high school students in City Heights in a wide variety of subjects, but mostly in the sciences. In addition, I was a teaching assistant in a biology class, where I had my own class of 33 freshmen in college. Although I love teaching the sciences, I especially love tutoring for the MCAT. I understand how hard the MCAT can be for some students, as I had to take it twice myself. However, by taking it twice, I have gained a stronger sense of what works and what doesnt when it comes to MCAT prep. With all my knowledge from taking the MCAT twice, I knew I wanted to use it to impact my college community. Over the past few months, I have co-founded a club here at UCSD which aims to prepare students for the MCAT by providing recourses, study tips, but most importantly encouragement to study for this exam. I believe that when it comes to the MCAT, the quality of the time far outweighs the quantity, and help students organize their time by creating personalized, effective, and reasonable study schedules, and the students I have worked with in the past have all scored above the 85th percentile of the MCAT. Conquering the MCAT for many is one of the first steps to making those childhood dreams of becoming a physician come true, as it was for me. While Im not tutoring or in school, I enjoy reading, running, cooking, and traveling the world.
