It is my belief that everything in the world can be explained through a story. So here's a story: I grew up in Central California and moved to Spokane, Washington for school at Whitworth University. With a degree in English Literature and Writing, I soon found that job prospects were limited, boring, and had little to do with people. The last point is primarily why I'm tutoring to meet others and form an academic relationship with them.
As someone who enjoys the interplay between learning and teaching, you'll find that I rely on a pedagogy that is heavy on conversation and rhetorical listening. I am not here to tell students how to do things, but rather to discuss the most effective way of doing them.
On the personal side, I love coffee (French press), baseball (the New York Mets), music (rap, '90s alternative, etc.), and stand-up comedy (Louis CK, Iliza Shlesinger, again etc.). Obviously, I'm an avid reader. Favorite authors include, but are not limited to: Julian Barnes; Zadie Smith; David Foster Wallace; Virginia Woolf; Jeanette Winterson; James Joyce; Jonathan Safran Foer; and Thomas Pynchon.
Critical theory is my jam.
I specialize in rhetoric and composition, American history, and both British and American literature. Feel free to contact at any time for information about tutoring.
