I am a graduate of Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. I also have a Master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. For the past 7 years, I have worked in traditional media outlets and held communications, advocacy and program management roles for nonprofit advocacy organizations as well as state agencies. There are unique dynamics and specific opportunities available in today’s workforce that did not exist in decades past. It is my goal to help students prepare to seize these opportunities. It is crucial to cultivate students and teach them to navigate the educational experience in a way that encourages the investment of communities and those around them. I feel that this position is the perfect avenue to achieve each of these.
I think that instructors are responsible for encouraging self-sufficiency and self-motivation within students. This can most effectively be done by constant direct communication. Optimally, I encourage students to connect with other students on a one-to-one and group basis through a free exchange of ideas.
