I am a proud alumna of South Carolina State University and Strayer University. I have a bachelor's degree in Professional English and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
Working with the youth is my life's joy. I have been an educator for 17 years in the classroom. I most enjoy working individually with students because I am able to identify their strengths and weaknesses with the ability to provide strategies effective for the individual. I have experience tutoring students from 3rd grade through their first year in a post-secondary setting. My tutoring experiences range from: phonics, intensive and accelerated reading, grammar, writing, reading comprehension, organizational skills, SAT Prep and ACT Prep, and standardized state testing strategies. I enjoy reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing. These are my favorite subjects to tutor because it allows the student to express themselves freely, through their comprehension and writing.
I approach teaching and tutoring with the philosophy that everyone is a unique individual who needs a secure, sincere, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help others meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is comfortable, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are two elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment: the teacher acting as a guide, and promoting respect for all things and all people.
When I am not educating the youth, you can find me engaged in a great novel, writing poetry, traveling, or listening to all sorts of music.
Education is essential! Once one has knowledge, the world is yours to conquer.
