I am a nurse, RN, BSN, MSN and a doctoral student. I graduated from Long Beach State with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with a focus on Public Health Nursing and later licensed as a PHN. I earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from California State University at Dominguez Hills, with thesis research on Needs of Significant-Other Caregivers in the Home Setting. A questionnaire, Home Caregiver Needs Assessment was developed along with a theoretical model, Significant-Other Caregiver and Patient Assessment Model. I later wrote a book based upon my research Needs of Families Caring for Loved-Ones at Home. After the book was published, I was asked to speak for several community organizations such as General Motors Retirees and health care facilities.
I enjoyed a great career with the University of Phoenix, as an instructor in the BSN program for 19 years and loved every minute. Teaching is my calling; I used to say to friends that I ought to pay the university for allowing me to teach. I am passionate about helping students with their writing skills, APA format, and presenting skills; three of the reasons for students dropping out of school. One student shared at the beginning of class how she promised her dying father she would get her BSN. I later reminded her of this promise and talked her out of dropping the class. I developed a tool for learning APA format that was fun as the class divided into teams competing for a prize. This student finished the class and the BSN degree and went on to complete her masters degree as well.
My favorite subjects for tutoring are writing skills, presenting skills, and nursing. The greatest priority in hiring new employees, stated by seven experts at a recent conference, was on excellent writing skills in addition to the required degree. I welcome cultural diversity and my interest is about Arabian horses.
