"It's not what you say. It's how you say it, how you write it, how it is understood." -Me
I am described by my students and colleagues as being full of energy, tremendously creative and innovative, humorous, easily approachable, knowledgeable in my craft, with a sincere passion and unprecedented love for teaching the English language to my students and peers. I have experience teaching college level ESL courses, creating curriculum, communicating with and mentoring local and international students in Southern California, New York, Miami, South Korea, and Ecuador as well.
Some of my educational background. I have my Masters in TESOL from The City College of New York (2012), TESOL certification from Oxford Seminars (2008), iBT TOEFL writing certificate, 8+ years of TESOL/ESL K-Adult teaching. I have been teaching college level English since the fall semester of 2016 in addition to prior college-level experience from my master’s practicum teaching an ESL for an entire semester in the spring of 2012 (Hostos Community College). I was a TESOL instructor who taught intensive training adults to receive their TESOL certificate. In addition to collegiate level ESL teaching, I have national and international working with diverse populations in language schools, not-for-profits, city and community programs, as well as private tutoring.
I have this saying, “If I haven’t made you angry, upset, furious, or want to yell at me then I haven’t done my job. If you can’t tell me what you’re really feeling or defend your views and beliefs in English and can only talk about the weather, then I have failed you as a teacher.”. My goal is to get my students to express themselves by providing them with the tools (vocabulary) and structure (grammar) they need to be independent thinkers. I feel my approach and the methods that I incorporate in my classes create very productive, opinionated, successful and unique students that think for themselves, can stand up for themselves and have their own opinions which they can vocalize with swagger.
