What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that I am an effective teacher if I can help students enjoy learning. I believe that every student has the capacity to succeed and simply needs coaching and reassurance in their studying and problem-solving skills.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session, I would typically assess the student's skill level, subject area needs, learning style and personality. I try to address each area of assessment so that the student has a more personalized experience and is more motivated and confident to challenge himself or herself.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I find that students are more motivated to learn independently when they enjoy the subject and feel like they can be successful. Building the confidence of and engaging the student in the subject and learning process are my main priorities. In addition to that, I try to guide the student with strategies for successful studying, test-taking, problem-solving and critical thinking.
