Hello! My name is Cara and I am a graduating medical student from Buffalo, NY. I went to a public high school where I received a full IB diploma and I fully accredit my writing proficiency to this program. I received a full four year scholarship to Pomona College, in Claremont, CA, via the Questbridge scholars program. I majored in Neuroscience and took pre-med classes while also taking humanities abroad in Melbourne, Australia. I have done two years of research during my training, focusing women's and reproductive health, diabetes, and patient centered counseling.

I started teaching as a teacher's assistant in college level genetics and have gone on to teach Princeton Review MCAT prep for pre-medical students. I've mentored elementary and high school students while in medical school. I am an enthusiastic teacher and work best with students who are eager to learn, despite their academic level. I want to help students find ways of learning that work best for them, meet them where they are, identify their goals, and come up with a consistent plan to achieve this. Whether this be weekly sessions or a one time tutoring, I'm excited to work with all of you!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Work with students to meet them where they are at, identify the ways in which they best learn, and help them reach their self-identified goals.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Identify strengths, weaknesses, short and long-term goals, and what has worked in the past and what has not.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Give him or her material to cover at home without my help and have him or her teach this back to me, and then have the student identify his or her own homework to help learn to self-identity his or her own needs.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Talking about career goals, progress, and outcomes.
