I am a certified teacher who has worked with Fairfax County Public Schools, in Virginia, for 17 years, and have tutored many students during that time. My specialty is with special needs, and ADHD students and working with this population has given me the experience to work with other diverse learners. I recently relocated to California for a new experience and to be with my family.
Working with students of all ages is easy for me and my calmness along with sense of humor helps get my students motivated. I believe that all children can learn by recognizing their individual learning styles, their unique cultural diversity, and their interests to help them succeed. Keeping all these aspects in mind, it helps me design and tailor effective tutoring sessions. In addition, it is important that a student has a positive experience while improving on their challenges by emphasizing their strengths.
Students are not properly taught how to study in a school environment. I teach them strategies so they can become their own advocates of learning.
I have had the opportunity to teach children from kindergarten to sixth grade and tutored students from elementary to college. I also was an instructional coach (expert teacher) for 7 years and taught teachers, as well as learning the latest methods of teaching. I am comfortable and familiar with the K-6 curriculum and I have a wealth of resources for students and parents.
It is important for me to be a lifelong learner, so I keep up with best practices. I am certified in several reading programs that focuses on phonics and comprehension, as well as all levels of reading. When teaching math and writing, my students obtain lifelong learning skills and a concrete foundation.
I am flexible to work around your schedule. I look forward to working with you and your child.
