A recent Master's graduate in World History, I was able to start teaching at a college just weeks after earning my degree. My Alma Mater places a real focus on producing educators. I have a passion for research and the material, as well as for passing meaningful knowledge on to others. I started tutoring and teaching four years ago. I began with teaching Book Clubs and SAT Prep. I also have years of experience tutoring students in Sociology, Art History, and Education Psychology at the college level.
Although History is a challenging discipline, I am familiar with the specific historical thinking skills students must sharpen in order to evaluate information on their own. In addition, I have worked at a learning center where we focused on guiding students according to their individual learning styles. The purpose of a good tutor and mentor is to give students the tools to then analyze other problems on their own, and reach their own conclusions. When working with students it is vital to evaluate the knowledge they come in with, and how they can be taken to the next level. It is imperative to be as clear and versatile as possible. My approach varies according to student needs and goals, but it always involves providing learning strategies they can implement in future History courses and in their academic careers.
