I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology with an emphasis in Neuroscience from the University of Puget Sound. Throughout my time as an undergraduate, I tutored middle school, high school, and college students in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and ACT test preparation. I earned a Master of Science degree in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Genetics from the University of Minnesota as preparation for a job as a genetic counselor. As a graduate student, I was the teaching assistant for four undergraduate biology laboratory courses. I am currently working towards my Ph.D. in neuroscience and I hope to one day become a college professor.
I believe that education is the greatest tool a person can use to optimize their happiness and success. I also believe that all students are capable of mastering a topic if the material is presented in a way that matches the student’s personality and individual learning style. In addition to my experience as a tutor in academia, I spend my summers at an overnight camp teaching children and young adults a broad range of wilderness and life skills (from making a fire in the rain to being a positive leader in the face of adversity). Beyond teaching, I love reading, knitting, puzzles, ice hockey, and outdoor exploration.
