Hello!

My name is Laurin, and I just recently relocated to the Bay Area after spending the last 14 months teaching full-time ESL in Incheon, South Korea. It was an amazing adventure! Before that, I worked in mental health and also as a student tutor at my hometown community college. Subjects tutored include writing, math, and ESL.

For a bit about my educational background, I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University where I majored in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on social welfare. With that said, I love learning and also went on to earn a Psychiatric Technician certification, complete Certified Nursing Assistant training, and earn a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification. I am also proficient in Crisis Intervention (CPI) and CPR/BCLS.

In our free time, my husband and I love to adventure around and see all of the beautiful places in California! We've traveled all around the state from Anaheim all the way up past Eureka, and look forward to more adventures in the future. We love sailing, hiking, exploring, and being active in new ways. We have two kitties who we are currently trying to train into becoming adventure cats! We're a curious household to be sure, people who are always looking for new ways to learn and grow.

With Varsity Tutors, I hope to teach and help children and adults reach their academic goals! I would be delighted to work with you and look forward to becoming acquainted!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

The most important part of the first session with a student is to really assess where the student is in their learning. The assessment will let the tutor properly meet the student at their unique level of learning, and further allow for the tutor to make the best plan to reach the student's goals going forward.
