I’m a graduate of the Historically Black College & University, Elizabeth City State University, in North Carolina, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Cum Laude honors. While there, I was the recipient of two NIH fellowships and I tutored multiple students in a variety of STEM subjects, all while maintaining a full athletic scholarship. Upon graduation, I moved back home to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University where I received my Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. In 2015, I began my doctorate program in Epidemiology at Georgia State University, where I’m also working towards my Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry, and a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems. In the short spat between my graduate degrees, I worked for The Coca-Cola Company as an analytical chemist. I’ve been afforded many opportunities to travel through education and have studied in Belize, South Africa, and Southern California. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I’m most passionate about math and statistics. I’m a firm believer in higher education and I love helping students realize their potential. Outside of academia, I love spending time outdoors with my dog, playing volleyball, yoga, and cooking.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that every student has the ability to learn and the potential to succeed. I hope to teach lifelong skills in problem-solving through the way I choose to teach and tutor.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first session would involve introductions and gauging expectations from me and from the students.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way to help a student become an independent learner is to equip them with tools to be self-sufficient and give them the self-efficacy to complete the tasks they are presented with.
