I graduated from California State University, Channel Islands with a B.A. in Chemistry and a minor in Psychology. I have been tutoring middle and high school students in math and science for almost two years. Through this, I have realized my goal in helping students achieve their potential in their school classes. Math and science have been my favorite subjects throughout my life, so I hope to spread my passion for them with newer generations.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I aim to help students discover new interests in the STEM field. They are the newer generations that will help build a brighter future.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would like to get to know them first by determining their interests, learning level, and goals for their courses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would help them by giving them study tools that they could use outside of my help.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help them by boosting their confidence in the subject that they are having difficulty in.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try to discover new strategies to help this student. This can be done through different examples that incorporate experiments, images, videos, or detailed texts.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I help them by breaking the reading assignments down and helping them understand each section first, and then the assignment as a whole.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I am the most successful when I determine interests that the students might have. Then, incorporating these interests with their assignments to make learning more enjoyable.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

This can be done by explaining how the subject is applied in real life and how the student can be effected by it.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask them to critically think about questions that incorporate the material and other concepts that they are learning.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would make sure to explain what the student is doing correctly and how they are improving in the subject that they are struggling with.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would ask them what they are currently learning in school, how their grades are, and what they are finding difficult. From there, I can figure out what each student needs help with.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I will make sure to be flexible according to whether the student is understanding what I am teaching. I can do this by having a variety of tutoring methods ready in case they wanted something different.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I usually use textbooks, videos, and online tutorials in order to help further the student's learning.
