I graduated from University of Washington-Seattle in June 2016 with a B.A. in CEP (Community, Environment, and Planning), and a minor in Mathematics. I am currently based in Los Angeles County, CA., attending University of Southern California as a master's candidate in urban planning. As a math minor, I have taken the Calculus series (equivalent to AP Calculus AB and BC), multivariable calculus, differential equations, matrix algebra, mathematical reasoning, number theory, real analysis, probability, and geometry. In high school, I had math anxiety for a while, but then I overcame my fear by seeking help from teachers and being more patient about learning math. My love for teaching started from joining the future teachers club in high school, during which I taught an hour of geometry class. In my math journey, I learned to have a growth-mindset and not to give up. As a math lover, I still like to solve math problems, so I am confident in my ability to tutor and I am passionate about helping students to understand math. My math coursework beyond calculus helped me not only teach students how to solve a problem, but also provide them reasons on where the theories come from.
I am experienced in K-12 math education. I have been a class assistant at Academy for Precision Learning (Seattle, WA)???s middle school algebra and high school pre-calculus classes, during which I tutored students by asking them guiding questions. Also, I have tutored at a 2nd Grade math class at John Muir Elementary School in Seattle, during which I patiently explained concepts in alternative ways to help students better comprehend. In addition, my experience in tutoring college-level math has trained me to relate an abstract concept to real-world experiences in order to help students make sense of the concepts. Also, I have learned to break complex problems into several simpler steps, and guide students step-by-step. The success of my students has rewarded me with more confidence to support them in overcoming challenges in learning. In my free time, I like taking walks in parks and watch the geese and ducks! I also enjoy reading, chatting with friends, and drawing.
