Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I want to help students achieve their goals.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know them.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Guide them in the right direction instead of doing the problem for them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Relate the learning to something they like.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Go about a different route in explaining the problem.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Relate that subject to something they're interested in.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Before we start to work, I find connecting with the student goes a long way in building a relationship and helps the learning process.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Every student learns differently; for me specifically, my study habits and the way I learn have varied over the years. This makes me capable of using different methods.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

We go over the passage sentence by sentence to make sure he/she understands what they're reading.
