Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
Teach students to comprehend rather than to memorize or attain a certain grade. As I am teaching, I am also learning; therefore, I am also a student. Keeping this notion in mind allows me to understand we all learn at a different pace. Therefore, my teaching methods will vary depending on the student's needs.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would introduce myself and assess the student's concerns and explain my background. Create a blueprint the student and I agree on for reaching the goals established from their concerns.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would first try to evaluate their learning style and teach accordingly while boosting their confidence level in the material. For example, once the student has shown comprehension, allow him/her to demonstrate by explaining it back to me.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Provide examples of the subjects they're learning being applied to everyday life. Explain what employers require for education.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would first identify the difficulties and determine if the material being taught was fully comprehended. Based on these findings, I might tailor the teaching method to better suit the student's learning style.
