My name is Mingxue Wang, but I go by Michelle. I just graduated from UC Berkeley in May 2016 with a bachelor's degree in History. I also studied pre-med at UC Berkeley and am going to continue the medical profession next year at USC Keck Medical School. I have always had a strong interest in working with children and have done so starting in high school. Currently, I am working at a non-profit, Blueprint, as a Math Fellow at United for Success Academy in Oakland, CA. As a math fellow, I teach a class of 4 6th students every period to help them get up to speed on their math skills. My responsibilities include teaching the students, creating lesson plans, and participating in professional development meetings.
Before my teaching position at UFSA, I have also taught as an Undergraduate Student Instructor for a biology lab course at UC Berkeley, where I worked very closely and co-taught with the leading Graduate Student Instructor. I was responsible for a lab course of 28 students and gave lectures weekly and supplied one-on-one help as well. In my last year at Berkeley, I also offered free private tutoring to my peers in pre-med courses such as statistics, biochemistry, and biology. I met with them once or twice a week, based on their needs, and worked on concepts that they struggled with. I supplied extra practice material and helped me work through homework assignments or past exams.
I have always had a strong love for teaching and tutoring, and I hope to continue my impact through Varsity Tutors.
