Q & A

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Depending on my student's interests, we use stories, or we create our own poetry, movies, or song lyrics.

What is your teaching philosophy?

We must overcome any fear of being silly or having others make fun of us. Each time we are corrected by others is a learning opportunity. We must strive to self-evaluate our pronunciation and point out our own mistakes before others can.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Talk about the student's personal interests, their reason for choosing the target language, and their goals and expectations from the class.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By encouraging my students to read, listen, and speak the target language as much and as often as possible. To integrate both language and the culture into their lives.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Perform exercises and assignments to be done in their personal time, such as reading aloud, tandem conversations, translating lyrics, or watching a movie.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

We deconstruct each sentence and carefully pinpoint any misunderstanding with both pronunciation and meaning.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Learning my student's daily habits, personality traits ,and interests helps me identify the kind of learning strategies they enjoy and therefore remember the most.
