It is hard to believe that so many years have gone by so quickly! I graduated from Rutgers College (New Jersey) with a Bachelor's Degree in History in 2001; this very same day, I also received my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the Rutgers University Graduate School of Education. I have been working in the field of education ever since! After working with a 5th grade class in New Jersey that year, I decided it was time to move on. I found myself loving the international scene, and suddenly found myself at a job fair, looking to move overseas after just one year at home. All in all, I have been teaching for the past 13 years, with 10 of these years being spent overseas (Venezuela, Albania). I have taught students of various ages, skills and backgrounds, and have taught all subject areas, ranging from General Education to Middle- and High School Social Studies. I have also taught music, art, P.E. and have tutored elementary-level students while working overseas.
While living in Venezuela, I also developed my Spanish skills, and am now fluent in this second language. As far as subject matter is concerned, I feel comfortable tutoring all subject matters at the elementary level, and would love to have the opportunity to tutor in Spanish as well. I am also available to offer test prep as well as Middle- and Upper Level Social Studies and History.
Our responsibility as tutors is to allow our students to feel comfortable with us, and comfortable within the material. If our student is not achieving success within our system, we must react, taking a proactive stance to their learning. Just as in a classroom setting, we must respect one another before, during and after session in order to maximize learning during our time together.
