My tutoring philosophy is to give encouragement to students, to show them a simple path to success: just work through the problems until the solution is reached.
This philosophy was shaped through my time in the test prep industry. At the moment, I’m transitioning from creating textbooks and apps to teaching in a classroom. As part of this, I’m working toward a teaching credential in Math.
As a writer and editor, I’ve created test prep workbooks in Math and Reading, and I use this experience to prepare students for standardized tests.
For several years, I worked as part of a software development team, creating test prep apps for the classroom. Through this experience, I gained a healthy respect for Kahn Academy and other websites that do a great job of teaching concepts. In my tutoring, I like to use these websites in combination with tutoring to really get kids to understand the concepts. I feel Khan is a model for tutoring, which of course doesn’t account for the types of interactions that have with real live students. But they do a great job of providing understandable answers, which is what students want.
I can teach math skills up and through pre-calculus. I love teaching, and look forward to working with you to help students be the best they can be.
