I am a 2014 graduate of Vanderbilt University with teaching credentials. I received my Bachelor of Arts through a double major in Sociology and Earth/Environmental Science. Through my studies, I realized a love for data and researchand, most importantly, developed unwavering beliefs in the importance of education. I believe that through education, students must be able to make well-rounded and purposeful connections with information in order to grow academically and be college and career ready.
After graduating, I was admitted to the selective Nashville Teaching Fellows of The New Teacher Project, which develops highly qualified teachers to work in high-need communities and subjects. I actively learned research-proven best practices of education through intensive classroom practice, expert coaching, and personalized training. It was through this program that I earned my teaching license in Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum.
During the 2014-2015 school year, I worked as a 6th Grade Math and Science teacher in Nashville. My strength was in my one-on-one and small group interactions. These interactions allowed me to observe and assess student progress throughout many parts of a lesson and to focus on the thought process rather than simply the final answer. They also allowed me to develop strong connections with my students and provide individualized guidance.
Additionally, I now have two years of experience with one-on-one tutoring, both in-home and online. I have worked with elementary, middle, and high school students on their respective math courses, as well as a variety of test preparation subjects (ACT, SAT, PSAT, SSAT/ISEE).
I aim to create a flexible, engaging and collaborative tutoring atmosphere for students to feel comfortable in when approaching difficult material, asking questions, or establishing goals. My main goal with students is that they walk away having taken ownership of the material, as well as their education as a whole.
Originally from the Bay Area (and most recently living in Nashville and Florida), I am currently located in Sacramento. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, going to the beach, hiking, baking, and watching baseball and hockey.
