Hi! My name is Cali. I have worked in education since 2008. I currently work as a education support specialist. I have a undergraduate in Historical and Political Studies and graduate degree in Education. I enjoy working with elementary school students. What is your teaching philosophy?
Children can excel in education when they learn at their own style and pace.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
A first session is a meet and greet. I would get to know my student and they would get to know me. After the initial meet and greet, then we could move along into expectations and goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would give them the tools needed based on their learning style and cognitive development.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by finding out their likes, and use that tool to assist them in progressing.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would have to change the way I'm teaching the content. Adding manipulatives or other learning tools might have to be incorporated to assist in learning.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would use strategies such as generating questions, graphic organizers, metacognition and summarizing.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Assessing a student first is helpful. This informs me of where I need to start with a student. Also, tailoring teaching to the learning style can promote success.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would get the student to view the importance of knowing the content. Also, relating the information to their daily lives can get a student engaged.

I would use assessments based on their needs.

One way to build a student's confidence is through positive reinforcement.

I would evaluate a student's needs through assessment and observation.
