After graduating Loyola University Chicago with a BS in Chemistry, I went on to finish my Masters in Chemistry at Illinois Institute of Technology. The most rewarding experience in my postgraduate studies was teaching the General Chemistry laboratory courses for non-majors. I found that the best way to improve students' grades was to help work out their reasoning using the scientific method. Even when most of my students wouldn't be working behind a lab bench in their careers or future lives, the critical thinking skills and curiosity about the world fostered by learning about the physical sciences will stay with them for life.

Away from the lab, I volunteer with a no-kill animal shelter taking care of cats and kittens and knit amusingly misshapen scarves. My favorite bridge is the Mackinaw Bridge in my home state of Michigan.
