Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
I try to understand which approach works for different students, as each student's way of thinking and comprehending is unique, and I try my best to understand it and relate to them to get the message across in a crystal-clear manner.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know them and understand where the weaknesses lie exactly in any subject, and try to fix it before going on and starting the tutoring session.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By teaching them techniques to attack each material in the most comfortable way that seems fit for each individual.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will try to explain the concept from a different perspective, and try different techniques until the student fully grasps the concept and how to apply it.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I always try to teach them how to read and understand what the passage is about in general. I teach the skills of skimming and scanning very well so that they don't spend much time on getting deep into the passage and getting lost in between the line information.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
The best strategy that works for most students is providing a real-life example for them to relate to the concept being explained.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
The first and most important thing to do is explain it to them in the simplest way possible. After that, I will make sure they find any question they solve correctly as an achievement, and any difficulty is a challenge rather than something hard to comprehend.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will make sure that the student provides an example that applies each concept explained. If they are able to do so, then they understand the material fully.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Practice. It is all about practicing examples and reading the material thoroughly to fully comprehend the concepts and apply them to real cases.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
A student's needs are related to their confidence in a subject. If they don't feel comfortable with a certain concept or material, then that is a sign of weakness and should be addressed until the student solves the examples and cases with the highest level of confidence.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I try to understand what concepts they are struggling with, and I'll have different approaches towards each concept and see what works best for each individual student.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use whatever material the student is using (books and notes). I also use my own notes that I derive from their own material so they can relate to it.
