I have 15 years of experience teaching Chinese in public schools in both China and the States. My major was Chinese language and literature. In the States, I have worked with elementary school students from K1 through G6 for 6 years. At the meantime, I taught G7 students Chinese in a weekend Chinese school. I am very experienced working with students of all ages. I get along well with people naturally. I am a positive, caring, and easy-going person. I like to read, travel, play guitar and watch movies.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Listening, speaking, reading and writing will be practiced in every class.

Introduce myself and get to know the student. Understand the student's expectation.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Encourage student practice as much as possible. I may assign an after-class worksheet.

I let the student know about every single progression he/she makes.

I strive to understand what the student struggling with about reading first. Then, I design a lesson plan specifically for that.

Find a connection and build up the trust.

Give the student a sense of control.

Set up a goal before each class, and review the goal after.

Make sure that the student knows about all progress he/she makes.

I'd set up an assessment.

Videos, songs, hand gestures, flash cards, body movements, and pair practice.
