I am a graduate of the University of Arizona with a BA in Political Science and a minor in German Studies. As a former client of Varsity Tutors, I understand what a special opportunity a positive learning environment can be. Whether one is confused and frustrated in a class they aren't particularly interested in, or simply overwhelmed by the scope of a class's content, I sincerely believe that fun and understanding can both be had if the material is approached in a structured, conscious manner. It's my job as a tutor to make this happen.
I've always had a passion for the humanities and social sciences and want to use that to help others. History and government can be tedious subject matters, but that shouldn't scare one away or stop an otherwise critical thinker. I look to achieve a casual conversation level of competency. Names and dates are important, but understanding trends and feeling connected to events in the past are just as important. Social science classes aren't just about one perspective, they're often about conflicting perspectives. Looking at an event from multiple perspectives has always helped me understand events better than a timeline ever did. As a result, I strive not only to memorize issues but converse about them. For example, let's talk about Abraham Lincoln's beard and how weird it must have been to see it in person. Does your daily life feel like the American Dream? Why or why not? I'm excited to help you or your child achieve!
