Grown up by the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. After high school, I entered the best traditioanl Chinese medicine school in China to study Chinese medicine (herbal medicine, acupuncture )......I took TOEFL and GRE examnation, and got an full assistantship support to enter a graduate program on nutrition in America.
I speak Mandarin with CCTV (China Central Televation) accent :-) I believe that understanding the Chinese culture goes hand-in-hand with learning the language. As a native Chinese, my advantage in teaching mandarin is that I can integrate cultural knowledge during teaching to give you the skills needed to make efficient communication with people from China, whether for doing successful business or making friends, not to say if you are learning mandarin just for the purpose of passing an language examnation.
My teaching style is try to help you memorize what we need to learn the laguage the natural way, put everything in a cultural and lauguage background so that you will have confidence in a real-life situation. I believe that everyone is created equal in learning a laguage, that one don't need to be as smart as rocket scientist to learn a language well. So long if you can speak your native languge well, you are talented enough to learn another language well, all you need is a good teacher and practice. BTW. If you feel you are very slow in learning language and disappointed by yourself, you should let me help you, I have patients and you will find your self-confidence soon.
I have two children. My son started his school in U.S and learning Mandarin now, while my daughter started her school in China and learning English now. This unique experice of helping them with their language study as well as knowing their native school language material and requirements gives me a deeper understanding of the mandarin learning process -- what are the difficult points in mandarin learning for native English speakers. I'm going put this knowledge into my teaching to make your learning process an efficient one.
I will make up a schedule specificly for you depending on your goal and help you to master listening, speaking, reading and writing Chinese characters skills. Stress one area or another depending on your personal goal.
