I hold a Bachelors degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University and a Juris Doctorate from New College of California School of Law. I have enjoyed 17 years in the fabulous field of education. I have worked in all levels of K-12 education as a 5th grade teacher in elementary school, a substitute teacher in middle school and a Social Studies teacher in high school. In addition, I taught adult inmates GED for the San Francisco Sheriffs Department. In 2003 I transitioned into the proprietary education field in which I have worked as a paralegal and criminal justice instructor, legal studies department chair, associate dean and director of education. More recently, I worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer for Harold Holden Boys Ranch and Camp Glenwood in Northern California.
I am an accomplished musician and I have had the pleasure of playing in bands with three very famous musicians. Skylark, who is now the bass player with the Doobie Brothers, Randy Jackson, who is the host of American Idol, and my brother, Jerry McNeil, who was the keyboard player with the Whispers. In 1989, I had the pleasure of working for the Sun Reporter in San Francisco as the entertainment editor. I reviewed shows and had the pleasure of interviewing many celebrities like the late Tupac Shakur. In addition, I was awarded Best Entertainment editorial by the prestigious West Coast Black Publishers Association. In 1992 I created the California Music Conference and we discovered the rap group N2Deep and their debut album Back to the Hotel sold over five hundred thousand copies and they were awarded a gold album for their success. In terms of personal hobbies, I love to play tennis, bowl and I currently play drums for my churchs praise and worship team.
I have sought out tutoring to have the opportunity to work with students who are committed to academic excellence. I love the a-ha moment that occurs when the light bulb goes on for the student. This magic turns the frown to a smile and is truly the best reward for the culmination of all of our hard work! I am an accomplished musician and I enjoy being on stage performing. The very first time I taught, I realized that teaching is very similar to performing on stage and I quickly made the connection and began to merge my skills as an entertainer with the art of teaching to create edu-tainment in the classroom.
