I am a qualified and compassionate English instructor tutor and I want to share my passion for English, books, and language with others. I have a Juris Doctor and practiced law actively for 10 years. I have a BA in Modern Literature and have been a freelance writer for years. I teach English, Writing, and college level grammar at The University of The West and it is the best job I’ve ever had. Writing and reading saved me as a shy young girl and am dedicated to continuing my work in the English Arts. As an English instructor, I have spent extensive time preparing lessons, grading homework and exams, and sharing my love of English with my students, foreign and domestic. I am a hard-working and patient person with a positive attitude. I use many tried and true teaching techniques and always tailor my lessons to the student's individual needs. I have high energy, a good sense of humor in stressful moments, and a strong desire to help every student reach that "aha moment" where their learning just clicks.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself and assess the student's needs, including their assignments, their classes, their strengths and areas that need improvement.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I use many tried and true teaching techniques and always tailor my lessons to the student's individual needs. I first assess the student's level of comprehension, then interest in the topic, and then begin evaluating the student's learning style. Most students fall into categories: Visual, Auditory, Combination of both, Tactile, and Reading / Writing. I work with the students in their best style and encourage active engagement during our lessons.
