What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that my task as a tutor is to facilitate the understanding and learning of every one of my students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would first go over and answer what questions that the student has.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would challenge my students to bring in questions to our sessions that they have difficulty in, and possibly give them a few questions to work on.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would make the tutoring session fun and interesting. A lot of people learn when their level of interest in a particular subject is high.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would go over several similar examples pertaining to the concept, and make sure the student is comfortable in answering questions in regards to that.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would encourage those students to take their time when reading, and to make sure they understand the reading material.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The strategies include; making sure I find out what aspect the student has issues with, repetition of different examples when the student does not understand a particular concept, and I tend to ask for feedback from the student on what will be beneficial to them.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would answer as many questions as possible from the student, and make sure they are comfortable in answering questions in regards to that subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use repetition of different examples and get feedback from the student to find out if they fully understand the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would make sure they are able to answer and explain key concepts from that particular subject.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would ask different questions and give the student several exercises pertaining to that subject.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I would observe the student after a period of time to see if there is any improvement, and go from there.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Depending on the situation, I could use a whiteboard, textbooks and other online resources.
