Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to find the strengths and weaknesses in the child I am working with. Then I would use them during the tutoring session. Also, I will use the child's interests to help keep their motivation to learn the material. I will go with the pace of the child.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will get to know the child by asking about their interests, school, what they don't understand about the subject, what do they want out of me as their tutor, and set a goal for them during the session.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will help a student become an independent learner by having the student practice gaining information or solving the problem independently. I will assist the student with a problem, and then the student will do the problem independently. If he or she gets the problem correct, I will ask them how they solved the problem.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will help a student stay motivated by giving them time, positive reinforcement, and praise for their hard work.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would help students that are struggling with reading comprehension by having the child underline the important facts in the paragraph. By helping them identify what the question is asking. By doing practice worksheets that can help strengthen the skills that are needed to do reading comprehension.
