In my 8 years as a teacher and tutor, I have come to realize that my knowledge of the material is incidental to my knowledge of the student's current understanding of the material. In the early part of my career, I often incorrectly assumed the student's complete understanding of the material. To eliminate these incorrect assumptions and better facilitate the student's advancement towards independence, I employ a fusion of direct subject teaching and a Socratic style of questioning.
I am comfortable working with all ages from Kindergarten to college. I am trained in Lindamood-Bell for K-12 in English Language Arts and math up to pre-algebra. Currently, I teach philosophy at the community-college level.

What is your teaching philosophy?
When a student struggles with a skill or concept, I try to take what they know and gradually build into the skill or concept.
