I first became interested in teaching and tutoring in high school. Since I excelled in science and math, I started hosting tutor sessions for my classmates who needed help. That feeling I got when my peers received the bulb light, confirmed teaching and tutoring as a career choice for me.
When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of physics and mathematics courses, all of which tended to strengthen and solidify my interest in mathematics. I've also had the opportunity to take on two summer internships, one in South Africa and one in Seoul Korea. They have been both pleasant and informative, providing me with a new and different perspective on the world in which we live.
My time in school, as a student and as a teacher, has developed my philosophy of respecting each child as an individual, as well as part of a community. I aim to give children as many learning tools and experiences as possible in order to engage, inspire and prepare them for future life. A suitable, stimulating, and creative curriculum is vital in developing children’s skills and knowledge. It is evident that not everyone learns the same way at the same pace. Therefore, all children have their own preferred learning style, which best suits their intelligence. As a teacher and a tutor, I can best meet children’s learning needs and provide work at an appropriate, but challenging level if I am aware of the learning style suited to them.
During all of my engagements I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Common Core Math I, II, and III, Geometry, AP Statistics, Honors Advanced Functions and Model (AFM), Trigonometry, Pre –Calculus, and Discrete Math. I have worked with other teachers to plan the curriculum and to get a solid understanding of the standards for each level of mathematics in North Carolina. I have also attended numerous of conferences to stay current on the technology and standards in mathematics.
My constant learning and teaching experience, has established my belief that teaching is one of the most challenging, demanding, and rewarding careers there are. I am here to teach, uplift, train, observe and reassure until each individual is officially ready to take the next step in math. I really look forward in taking our youth to new heights one step at a time.
