Ever since I can remember, I have loved math, physics and astronomy. I have been a high school math and physics teacher for the last five years, including four years in at Oakland Military Institute, one year at Freedom High in Oakley, CA, and a summer teaching physics at the SMASH summer program in Berkeley. Working with students individually has always been rewarding for me as I can tailor instruction to the needs of the student and help the student feel confident in their abilities.
I have taught all levels of math from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus AB, and had several of my students pass the AP test. Before I started teaching, I worked as a tutor in the student services department at UC Santa Cruz and tutored privately as well. At both schools I have worked at, I worked in the academic support programs in addition to my teaching job. I have worked with students of all levels, including course repeaters, honors students, and students with IEPs and I firmly believe that all students can be successful in math and science.
In my free time, I love learning new skills, and am currently working on learning how to quilt and learning programming. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, including camping and backpacking, hiking, and riding my bike. I read a lot, both fiction and non-fiction, I do yoga, and like to do origami.
