I graduated from UCLA with a degree in English Literature and a minor in Spanish. After graduating, I traveled to Africa and Australia where I became a certified English as a second language (ESL) instructor. I taught and tutored students helping them to master English reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I returned to San Diego, California, where I continued to work as an ESL teacher for four years. In San Diego I worked with students preparing to enter undergraduate and graduate programs in the U.S. I helped them to become college ready and also prepare for difficult ESL tests such as the TOEFL, TEFL, and IELTS tests. I left San Diego to move to New York and receive my Master of Arts in English Education grades 7-12. Most recently I taught 12th, 10th, and 8th grade English Language Arts at an early college school in Queens. I loved challenging my students with rigorous and interesting material to help them greatly improve their reading comprehension and writing abilities and be ready to take college level courses. I also enjoyed watching them gain confidence in their English skills as we prepared for tough standardized tests. I believe that strong reading and writing abilities are essential to success in school and life, and I love using interesting and challenging texts that revolve around current issues and topics in the world today. In addition to my passion for education and helping students, I love the outdoors and being surrounded by nature - hiking, camping, and swimming. I also love going to concerts, reading and writing fiction, and exploring New York's diverse restaurants and cafes.
