My desire to engage, challenge, and inspire growth in my students is not limited to the classroom setting. I not only teach the subject at hand, I teach my students how to confidently retain the information. My goal is for students to be able to solve any problem we go over regardless of the wording.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Hard work and dedication is the gateway to success. If you have the willingness to learn, I will help you accomplish your goal!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will initially evaluate my student's strengths and weaknesses to determine their learning style. I will build up their strengths, while also working to improve their weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I will challenge my students to critically think. I will also provide them various learning and studying techniques that will help them with their independent studies.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I generally like to show them how the material will benefit them with their future careers, whatever that may be. I have learned that students are more inclined to work better and harder when they see the benefits.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I'd use visual aids or audio to facilitate the student's learning. If the student is still having difficulties comprehending the concept, I will change my overall approach to fit the student's method of learning.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I typically teach my students decoding skills. I have the student keep word banks of unfamiliar terms.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I always teach the student the concepts, and I have them teach them back to me. I also do sample problems and have the students work out problems on their own as I critique and explain errors made, if any.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Apply to their future! I give them real life scenarios and explain the importance of being knowledgeable in the subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I give written assessments to facilitate retention. In some cases, I will drill the students on their acquired knowledge.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Congratulate the student when they are understand the material and always seek out the positive steps while they work on a problem! I create an innovative learning environment to let the student know that it's OK to make errors during the session so they can be critiqued along the way!

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I evaluate their strengths and weaknesses within every problem.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I study how the student learns and cater my plans to suit their learning styles.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Calculator, paper, pencil, textbook, PowerPoint, tablet, worksheets, and videos, if needed.
