My goal is to help students become more confident in what they are learning and to help them become confident in their abilities to grow in their educational career. I have 6 years of teaching experience since graduating in 2010. I've taught High School English related subjects, High School Math related subjects, and grades 3rd-6th. I love to teach English-related classes and find discussing spelling, grammar, vocabulary with students and helping them to apply it to their paper or project is very rewarding. I also enjoy teaching Social Studies/History and helping students see how our world and nation's history has truly molded our country and the way we do things.
In the elementary setting, the majority of my students were ELL learners and I would seek out any activity-based learning opportunity that would provide learning results, not just fun, for them to complete. Helping students to achieve success in academics, while showing them how to be proud of themselves is and has always been my dream "job."

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that all students are capable of learning, but that as educators, we must tap into their learning style in order to help them reach their fullest potential.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I seek first to understand where a student is struggling, find out his or her interests, and then use what I learn about that student to guide my lessons to help them. I would pre-assess students on what is the expected prior knowledge, and then build lessons from there.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I like to teach/explain things in different ways, so if a student is struggling with math, I would use math manipulatives. If they are struggling learning using one type of manipulatives, I'd use a different one.
