My name is Micah, and I am 23 years old. I graduated from Emory University in 2015 with a degree in German Studies and Spanish Studies (High Honors). I am currently taking pre-pharmacy requirements at Georgia State so that I can apply to pharmacy school. I've had a lot of experience tutoring and working with kids; I've worked as a summer physical science teacher for rising eighth graders, volunteered at a preschool, been a nanny for kids ranging from 1 year to 14 years of age, worked as a camp counselor both in Atlanta and abroad (Spain and Switzerland), and am an older sister to a 15 year old! These opportunities have given me teaching experience in physical science, reading, writing, German and English. I am also able to tutor in subjects such as high school chemistry, elementary to high school level math, and basic Spanish.

One of the many things I enjoy doing the most is traveling. I spent last year living in Vienna, Austria as an au pair and during college, I spent two semesters abroad (one in Spain and one in Germany). I also really enjoy running, reading, playing piano, and spending time with my sisters.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

During a first session, I would want to get to know the student personally. I would talk to them about school, what they like and dislike, and ask them what they are hoping to improve. I would also be sure to answer any questions they might have about me!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help students be independent learners by encouraging them to attempt to answer questions on their own before I guide them through it and giving them assignments to practice outside of tutoring.
