Before coming to New York to pursue my Master's, I was a middle/high school Spanish teacher for three years.

I am completely fluent in Spanish and am able to tutor students in reading, writing, and speaking the language. I have my teaching certification in Spanish for the state of Texas and I taught varying levels of Spanish to 8th-12th grade students for three years.

I have a BA in Psychology and am very familiar with the concepts and terms that are discussed in an intro-level or even AP Psychology course.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Before coming to New York to pursue my Master's, I was a middle/high school Spanish teacher for three years. Besides the grammar, vocabulary, and writing lessons that were a part of my classroom, I also worked hard to instill in my students the mindset that learning isn't just reserved for the classroom. Keeping students engaged by showing them how they can apply knowledge or a skill to their daily life is an important element of my lessons, and I have always enjoyed seeing students' confidence grow when they can see their progress.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session with a student, I would try to get to know the student, including the background information they have in the subject, what their goals are for that subject and how it might relate to their personal interests.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

To increase independence and student investment, I would design a tracker so that a student could view their progress in the subject. I would also include a section on the tracker for us to set goals and skills that they could practice outside of the tutoring time.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by helping them set small goals and revisiting those goals later on so that they could track their progress. I would also show the student how that concept they are studying can be applied to their daily life or an interest they might have.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If a student was having difficulty with a concept, I would backtrack to assess if the student understood a more elementary concept. That way, I could see where the breakdown in understanding the concept was. Once the concept was completely broken down, I would gradually add onto the concept and pause to check for understanding along the way until the student felt confident with the concept.
