There is something truly inexplicably special about seeing that spark of comprehension and inspiration light up a student's eyes. For me, I do not see tutoring as 'teaching,' but rather as sharing my passion for something, whether a new idea or skill, with the student.
I started tutoring writing and essay help back in high school. Then in college, I TA'ed for two very different courses my senior year, specifically Intro to Computer Science and Intro to Japanese Culture. Whether essays or programming assignments though, I'd try as much as possible to broaden the student's perspective beyond the current assignment. I want to help the student gain the skills and the confidence to not only succeed on the current assignment but on all future assignments, obstacles, and stumbling blocks they may face both in and out of the classroom.
In particular, I love tutoring and helping others build their verbal and analytical skills as it helps the student learn both how to better communicate their ideas to others and also how to connect on a deeper level with the messages of others.
Alongside writing, reading, essays, literature, and AP Literature and Composition, I also tutor Japanese (mainly conversations, and study skills/organization.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in a major unique to Tufts. Dubbed International Literary and Visual Studies (ILVS), the major allows one to study international literature, film, and the arts through a cross-cultural comparative lens. Within the major, I decided to focus on film and Japanese culture.
Besides books, movies, and TV series, I also enjoy being active. I've done figure skating and skiing since I was young, and have picked up hiking and bouldering in the past few years. I love the outdoors so I take any opportunity I can to be active outside.
I also adore animals, having grown up with two large labs when I was child. Now we have three dogs, a cat, and a bird.
