I love working with children and seeing them succeed in learning and have the thrill of grasping and understanding a new concept! I have taught second grade for three years and am able to tutor elementary aged children (K-6).

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I love to make learning fun through interactive activities, supplemental materials, YouTube clips, etc. I also want to make sure they try to grasp the content though guiding them and scaffolding them to figure it out on their own so that it is retained better.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the student and establish a connection with them and assess them to see where they are in the particular concept they are getting tutored on.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I want to guide them to help them figure out the answers on their own, as opposed to giving them all the answers/using more direct instruction.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I'm a big believer in positive praise and motivation. I love to use sticker charts and goals to keep children motivated to achieve their goals with learning.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Repetition with learning is essential. I also would make sure that I cover the concept in various ways (including different ways of learning, verbal, music (like using a song), written, through drawing, hands-on, etc.).
