I tutor math and business courses. I have a year and a half of official tutoring experience at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and I also tutored previously for a few clients outside of the university. I received my degree at Ball State University, a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Finance.
My favorite subjects to tutor are Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, and ACT and SAT prep, particularly because these subjects have a large influx of students who either were pitch perfect until they began these courses or of students who begrudgingly barrel through these courses just to get by. I enjoy helping struggling students embark on the journey so they can see the light at the end of the tunnel, know that they are going to be okay, and that they will be prepared to reach their goals and even possibly exceed them.
My teaching style involves Socratic questioning to promote active learning. This involves redirecting questioning so that answers can build upon themselves and students will be able to expand on their thinking and place more effort into thinking through the obstacles they face. Usually, I will also teach or review study skills in order to promote success in future coursework that the student will be able to utilize even after their current class is finished. Another part of my teaching style is establishing rapport through providing concrete and tangible examples that apply practically to their lives while simultaneously embedding various mathematical concepts into the student's thought processes. When giving these examples, I also give the student the chance to reciprocate and build their own examples so that the pertinent information will be retained easier.
Outside of classwork and academia, I enjoy playing tennis, trying out new restaurants, watching scary movies, and going to Broadway productions such as musicals or plays.
