What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is teach people the way they want to be taught. Engage them and make it fun!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would get to know a student and understand the way the learn best. This way, it helps me adapt my teaching style to the way the student best learns.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Open ended questions intended to make students think, and answer, will help students become more independent thinkers.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Finding what motivates them, and using that motivation to keep them engaged.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Break down the skill or concept better, so that student can understand more clearly.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I explain the reading material as it is being read.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Hands-on, visual learning has been the most efficient way to teach students.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I'd find something they may be interested in, and relate the material to that.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Open ended questions designed for them to answer in a way that makes them think and show their understanding of the material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I keep them motivated, encourage them, and work with them as much as possible.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I determine the student's current knowledge of the subject.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I find out the student's best learning abilities, and I change the way I teach the subject to match his/her learning styles.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use videos, graphs, books, and sometimes objects.
