Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all students can achieve success when they are motivated to do so. Motivation comes from within but also from people around you, like tutors and teachers, who encourage and support you. They help you figure out how to learn with your individual talents and needs.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I would like to get a sense of who the student is as a person so I can tailor lessons to their interests and learning styles. I also like to do quick assessments to see what level a student is presently at and what gaps we need to fill to level them up!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I like to use hands-on learning and problems that connect to the real world so concepts are easy to grasp.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Depending on the learner, I may suggest different things. I will teach strategies such as summarizing, main idea, and rereading to look for author's clues.
