Learn science from a tutor who has gained extensive "first hand" experience through decades long career in experimental science. I have two doctorate degrees from world renowned institutes. I am passionate about teaching science. I have been a research scientist in the field of materials science for over two decades. I have taught Chemistry at various levels. I believe that I am a great tutor primarily beacause I have hands-on experience with experimental Chemistry and therefore can speak authoritatively. I have published over 100 research papers in technical journals.
Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
I would like to make the teaching a pleasant experience.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
First of all I will get the student involved in the process of teaching and learning, which will be followed by checking for understanding. Furthermore, I will give them opportunity to function in the reverse role of teaching and this will give tremendous confidence in becoming independent learners.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
The fundamental philosophy of my teaching would be to make the process fun and enjoyable. I will motivate them by citing "real life" problems, and this will underline the need to study a particular subject.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will assess the student's ability to grasp the concept through alternate ways of explanation such as using pictorial descriptions and/or by using analogies in real life issues.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
To begin with, I will assess and identify their reading comprehension level.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
The most important issue is to understand the background knowledge level, motivation of the student and to establish a personal equation with the student.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will monitor the effectiveness of the teaching throughout the entire process by standard means such as quizzing, giving small tests and so on.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
The confidence level of the student in a particular subject can be built through the entire process. I will reverse the role of tutor/student and give the student an opportunity to teach the subject. This will help boost their confidence level tremendously.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I will assess the academic needs of the student by close interaction with the student.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
My primary objective in the whole process is to become successful with the teaching and this obviously means the creation of a successful student. I will be very open minded in changing my teaching philosophy, approach, and attitudes in order to achieve this goal.
