I graduated from Reed College in 2013 with an A.B. in Chinese Literature and Language. I received my MA from the University of Chicago in 2016.
I approach learning as a lifelong process. We begin with very little knowledge of a subject and achieve great gains through practice and creative repetition. Even after studying Chinese for seven years, I still encounter unfamiliar material every day. The key is not to master everything, which would be impossible. Rather, we want the kinds of skills and habits that will allow us to process new challenges with ease. As a tutor, I want to help my students cultivate these abilities. That way, they will have the tools to continue learning as long as they desire.
Outside of Chinese, my hobbies include listening to music, being outdoors, and following my favorite sports teams. I love old movies and art galleries. I love and am addicted to travel, especially when I can see great landscapes and mountains. Since moving to Chicago in 2015, I have enjoyed the local theater and music scene, as well as the many great museums and movie theaters.
